Case Study Reports
Overview
In the OpenGIS4ET project three case studies have been undertaken to demonstrate and describe the application of the citiwatts platform and its Calculation Modules:
-
Sønderborg, Southern Denmark, Denmark
-
Offenbach, Hesse, Germany
-
Almenland, Styria, Austria
The studies are conducted primarily for demonstration and validation purposes of the Citiwatts tool in the OpenGIS4ET project. Please note the disclaimers regarding assumptions and methodological approaches in each of the case study reports.
Sønderborg Case Study
-
Case Study Report in English language.
-
Content: A screening for district heating potentials in Blans-Ullerup-Avnbøl, as well as electric vehicle charging scenarios and simplified flexibility-studying energy system scenarios for the entire municipality of Sønderborg. The primary aim of this study was to demonstrate the Citiwatts Toolbox in a Danish context and case and to test and verify calculations. Given the large amount of analyses in the field of energy and heat planning in Sønderborg, the tool is only applicable for inspiration and scoping, as more elaborate tools (on the analysis-side) have been applied in Sønderborg earlier.

Offenbach Fallstudie
-
Case Study Report in German language, with summary in English.
-
-
Status: In review process. The report will soon be published here.
Almenland Fallstudie
-
Case Study Report in German language.
-
Content: Untersuchung, wie citiwatts zusammen mit dem Wärmeatlas Steiermark für die Energieplanung in KEM-Regionen genutzt werden kann – gezeigt am Beispiel KEM Almenland.

The citiwatts toolbox is a living platform: As the research project as well as its sister and follow-up projects evolve, (new) functionalities are refined and bugs are addressed and solved. The toolbox is hosted in two environments: the development server and the production server. The development server has the most up-to-date version, with most of issues and bugs solved, but it might be unstable as developers keep working on it daily. The production server instead is a stable environment.
